AIPM Invited to Serve at Morley Community Church in Yorkshire

By: Chuck McComb

AIPM has been invited to supply volunteer interim pastors for Morley Community Church (MCC). MCC is a conservative evangelical Congregational Church near Leeds in Yorkshire. It was started in 2000 by a group of Christians who lived in the town but worshipped elsewhere. They sensed the Holy Spirit’s leadership to start an evangelical church in their own town. Currently, Sunday worship attendance averages 18. MCC’s present leadership team consists of 2 deacons, Ray Baker and Andy Dalton. There is maximum involvement of the congregation and a high level of commitment.

MCC is willing to experiment with styles of worship and methods of outreach to reach their community for Christ. They use imaginative forms of evangelism such as highly successful youth camps the past 16 summers, annual Vacation Bible Club, Missions Week, youth meetings, and lunchtime Bible clubs in 2 schools on Thursdays and Fridays reaching 30 children. There is strong emphasis on community links and a positive high profile with the public.

In addition to evangelism and visitation (with members and non-members), the church places a high priority for pastoral leadership on solid biblical preaching, pastoral care and disciple development. The American interim pastor will help the leadership team with vision and strategy for MCC and represent the church externally with community groups.

MCC rents space at the local school for Sunday services and weekday meetings after school hours and during school vacation. Other meetings such as Bible study and prayer on Tuesday evenings are held in member’s homes. MCC is affiliated with the Evangelical Fellowship of Congregational Churches-UK, a group of churches that chose to not join the United Reformed Church organization.

MCC will provide the American interim pastor housing with bills paid, a car with expenses paid and will reimburse for airline tickets and visa expenses. The interim pastor will receive no salary or other form of remuneration and must pay living expenses including groceries and the recently established Immigration Health Surcharge fee of about $300 per person per year (gives access to National Health Service).
